Chicago, IL - In addition to providing primary health care for students and the community, PCC Community Wellness Center at Steinmetz has initiated a Medical Careers Club to encourage high school students to pursue careers in various medical fields.
The Medical Careers Club meets at PCC Community Wellness Center at Steinmetz, which is located inside Steinmetz College Prep High School. Each first Wednesday of the month, students have the opportunity to meet with health professionals, including physicians, dentists, nurses, social workers, and speech pathologists.
Two of the clinic’s health care providers organized the club: Sandra Montes, Behavioral Health Consultant, and family medicine physician, Dr. Vanessa Villacorta-Sierra. “I want the students to know how rewarding and wonderful a career in the medical field can be, not only professionally, but also personally,” said Dr. Villacorta-Sierra. “I am often humbled by my patients. They teach me invaluable lessons every day. I truly love my job and hope some of these young people will follow this calling to help others as well.”
The club is a natural extension of the clinic’s mission to improve health outcomes for the medically underserved community through the provision of quality, affordable, and accessible primary health care and support services. While the health facility is school-based, it is open to all members of the community. The Belmont-Cragin, Dunning and Montclare communities surround the clinic.
PCC Community Wellness Center at Steinmetz was beautifully renovated in July 2016 and is currently accepting new patients. The clinic is located at 3030 N. Mobile Avenue, Door #8, in Chicago. The facility’s hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. For further information, or to schedule an appointment, please call 773-622-5679.
