Medical Providers
  • Mary Kay Ayers, CNM, DNP– Midwife (Female)

  • Mary Kay Ayers is a certified-nurse midwife who joined PCC in 2014. She attained her Master of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Illinois. She is passionate about natural birth and alternative and complimentary health. In her leisure time, she enjoys reading, running, billiards, sewing, and spending time with family.



  • Cecelia Bacom, CNM – Midwife (Female)

  • Ceal Bacom is a certified-nurse midwife who joined PCC in 2004. She completed her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Literature at the University of Virginia. She later obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Northwestern University and a Master of Science in Nursing at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1988. She completed clinicals primarily at Cook County Hospital (now Stroger Hospital). Ceal has received numerous honors including an Award for Innovative Midwifery Care from the American College of Nurse-Midwives – llinois Affiliate and the Joyce Roberts Award for Excellence in Midwifery. She is fluent in Spanish. In her leisure time, Ceal enjoys gardening, reading, and bike riding.



  • Ellen Barton, APN – Family Nurse Practitioner (Female)

  • Ellen Barton is a family nurse practitioner who joined PCC in 2005. She completed both her undergraduate and nursing education at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1988. She was honored with the Dr. William Fitzsimmons Public Health Award in 2013. Ellen strives to involve her patients in their care as much as possible and communicate in ways that reduce confusion and improve patient understanding. By improving their understanding of how to maintain good health and control diseases, she hopes to empower them to make healthy decisions. In her leisure time, Ellen enjoys gardening.



  • Erika Castro, MD – Family Medicine Physician (Female)


  • Rebecca DeHoek, MD – Family Medicine Physician (Female)

  • Dr. DeHoek is a family medicine physician who joined the PCC health care team in 2010. She serves as the Medical Director at PCC South Family Health Center. Dr. DeHoek received her medical degree from Loyola University Chicago – Stritch School of Medicine in 2007 and completed residency at West Suburban Family Medicine Residency Program. She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Also, Dr. DeHoek is an adjunct faculty member at Northwestern University – Feinberg School of Medicine. She is fluent in both English and Spanish. Outside of medicine, she enjoys traveling and volunteering at her church.



  • Elizabeth Dowell, MD – Family Medicine Physician (Female)

  • Dr. Dowell received her medical degree from Case Western Reserve University – School of Medicine in 1995. She completed her residency training at the University of Arizona Family Medicine Residency Program. Having served at PCC since 2008, Dr. Dowell has demonstrated a commitment to community health. Also passionate about global health, she spent a year caring for patients at Hôpital Albert Schweitzer (HAS) in Deschapelles, Haiti. Similar to PCC, HAS provides health care for the medically underserved. Dr. Dowell speaks both English and Creole. She is a great resource at PCC and works at numerous sites, filling in for various doctors as needed.



  • Kelly Ellis, CNM – Midwife (Female)

  • Kelly Ellis is a certified-nurse midwife who joined the PCC health care team in 2013. She completed her nursing education at the University of Cincinnati in 2010. Outside of nursing, Kelly enjoys photography, running, and traveling.


  • Katherine Herold, CNM – Midwife (Female)

  • Katherine Herold is a certified-nurse midwife who completed her midwifery training at the University of Illinois at Chicago – College of Nursing in 2011. Katherine joined PCC in 2012. She speaks Spanish fluently. Her other interests include bicycling, writing, improv comedy, and travelling.

  • Jennifer Jaume, CNM – Midwife (Female)

  • Jen Jaume received her Masters of Science in Nurse-Midwifery from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2014. She boasts a strong background caring for mothers and families, having worked as a doula and homebirth nurse. Born in Cuban Miami, Jen came to Chicago to raise her family. The many things she loves include dancing, laughing, reading, cooking, and mothering. Jen is fluent in Spanish and English.



  • Danielle Kraessig, CNM – Midwife (Female)


  • Charity Lehn, MD – Family Medicine Physician, Fellow (Female)

  • Dr. Lehn is a PCC Fellow who completed both her undergraduate and medical education at Saint Louis University. Upon graduation in 2013, she was honored with membership in the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. For serving as a role model, she was also recognized by the Gold Humanism Honor Society as a student member. Dr. Lehn completed residency at McGaw Northwestern Family Medicine Residency. Her medical interests include women's health and obstetrics, chronic disease management, resident education, and refugee health. Dr. Lehn also speaks Spanish.



  • Gina Marcin, CNM – Midwife (Female)

  • Gina Marcin is an advanced nurse practitioner and certified nurse-midwife who completed her nursing education at University of Illinois in Chicago in 2013. Gina is also a licensed acupuncturist and certified medicinal herbalist. Each year, she co-organizes a medicinal herbal conference, The Midwest Herb Fest, in southern Indiana. For recreation, Gina enjoys camping, gardening, and fire-tending.



  • Tera Martin, CNM – Midwife (Female)

  • Tera graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2009 with a Master of Science in Nurse-Midwifery. Since then, she has worked as a homebirth midwife in Chicago and the nearby suburbs. She is committed to providing holistic, evidence-based midwifery care to women who birth outside of hospitals. In her free time, Tera enjoys traveling and hiking. She once combined her love of both during a 500 mile hike through Spain.



  • Annette Payot, CNM – Midwife (Female)

  • Annette Payot is a certified nurse-midwife who joined PCC in 2009. She serves as PCC’s Director of Advanced Practice Nursing and Midwifery. Annette completed her nursing and midwifery education at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2007. With an ardent concern for the medically underserved, she volunteered with the Peace Corps in Mongolia. In addition to midwifery, Annette enjoys running, jogging, and listening to music. She speaks both English and Spanish.



  • Mary Rigoni, CNM – Midwife (Female)

  • Mary Rigoni completed her midwifery education at the University of Illinois at Chicago in May 2014. She has a diverse work background including birth work, medical surgical and pediatric care as well as a past life in cognitive and social psychology research. When not at work, Mary loves being at home or at the beach with her husband and two children.



  • Amy Willen, CNM – Midwife (Female)

  • Amy Willen received her Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University in 2004 and has since attended births as a nurse-midwife in several settings including both large and smaller hospitals, free standing birth centers, and homes in Chicago and surrounding suburbs. Amy believes in natural childbirth and loves being able to tailor her midwifery care to support women's choices no matter what setting they are in. Amy enjoys traveling and has lived in Thailand and worked as a midwife in Uganda and Tanzania. She loves learning new languages but speaks mostly English and Spanish. Committed to providing care in underserved areas, Amy is a member of the National Health Service Corps.



  • Molly Wangler, APN – Family Nurse Practitioner (Female)

  • Molly Wangler is a family nurse practitioner who completed her nursing education at Loyola University Chicago – Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing in 2014. She was awarded the Kim Noonan Scholarship and inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International – Honor Society of Nursing. Ever passionate about nursing, she volunteered to serve patients in Costa Rica. Outside of nursing, Molly enjoys yoga, music, and cooking.



  • Katherine Wehrmann, CNM – Midwife (Female)

  • Katy Wehrmann is a certified-nurse midwife who joined PCC in 2013. After completing her Bachelor of Science in Biology at North Park University, she completed her Master of Science in Midwifery at the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing in 2013, graduating magna cum laude. Prior to nursing school, Katy served as an AmeriCorps volunteer at PCC where she worked as a doula and maternal and child health educator. In her leisure time, she enjoys running, biking, reading, and occasionally cooking elaborate meals.

  • Alexander Serrano, MSW – Behavioral Health Consultant (Male)

  • Alexander Serrano joined the PCC behavioral health care team in 2016. He completed undergraduate and graduate studies at Dominican University, where he made the Dean’s List and obtained a Master in Social Work in 2011. With previous experience as an applied behavior analyst, Alexander is completing coursework at the University of North Dakota to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. In his leisure time, Alexander enjoys walking his French bulldog, cheering on the Cubs, and playing Xbox One.
